The atmosphere also becomes denser, and the denser the atmosphere, the more resistance faced by projectiles. Furthermore, as the temperature drops, almost all powders slow down their combustion rate to a greater or lesser extent, developing lower pressures with the consequent slowing down of the speed of the projectile. In cold and humid climates,<\/strong> it is therefore advantageous to use cartridges which, under the same conditions, develop higher pressures such as, for example, the range of HP cartridges by Fiocchi.<\/p>\n

Many waterfowl and pheasant hunters switch to larger shot pellets<\/strong> as they move into the winter season.<\/p>\n
To give a quick example: as a general rule, a lead shot no. 4 at -6\u00b0 behaves like a lead n. 5 at about 15\u00b0.<\/p>\n
Therefore, it is a very good move during the late fall and winter months to increase pellet size to compensate for the eroding effects of shotgun energy in a denser atmosphere and longer average shooting distances.<\/p>\n
